Archaeologist – Fixed‑Term (6‑month) in Milton Keynes

About the role
The successful candidate will undertake archaeological field investigations, including manual excavation and the systematic recording of data, under the direction of a Project Supervisor. This fixed‑term position involves working on both local and away projects across a range of historic periods.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in fieldwalking, evaluation, excavation, finds processing, data entry and archiving.
- Accurately record investigation data using pro‑forma sheets, scale drawings and photographs.
- Recover artefacts and environmental samples in line with CA procedures and industry standards.
- Carry out manual excavation of features efficiently with a variety of tools.
- Maintain well‑organised administrative records and support trainee archaeologists.
- Adhere to health and safety policies and undertake all required training.
Required profile
- Knowledge and understanding of archaeological practice and periods.
- Previous experience in commercial archaeology.
- Ability to work to deadlines and undertake away work, including extended periods.
- Good communication skills for dealing with clients, sponsors and the public.
- Desirable: experience supervising machine‑watching briefs, survey skills (Leica GPS/TST), full manual driving licence and 4x4 vehicle experience.
