Area Countryside Officer – Public Rights of Way

About the role

The Northumberland County Council Countryside and Green Spaces Team is seeking an Area Countryside Officer to manage public rights of way and public access across the northern part of Northumberland. The role is full‑time, permanent and offers flexible, work‑from‑home arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain public rights of way and access land.
• Interpret and update maps related to pathways and rights of way.
• Conduct field inspections and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Engage with the public, landowners and stakeholders to resolve access issues.
• Travel to sites using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed).

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing public rights of way and access land.
• Excellent map reading ability.
• Capability to work outdoors in any weather.
• Clear and effective communication with a wide range of people.
• Access to a personal vehicle.
