Armourer – Large Calibre (Defence Manufacturing)

About the role

Join a leading defence manufacturing organisation as an Armourer specialising in large‑calibre weapon systems. You will be part of a dedicated weapons‑systems team, ensuring safe, compliant and effective maintenance, setup and testing of small, medium and large calibre arms for high‑integrity test and evaluation programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead maintenance, setup, operation and testing of weapon systems across all calibre sizes.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security and engineering governance, including EMERs, AESPs and JSPs.
• Diagnose faults, carry out repairs and perform preventative maintenance.
• Support trials by collecting, analysing and reporting test data.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver safe and compliant test‑and‑evaluation tasks.

Required profile

• Recognised engineering apprenticeship, NVQ or equivalent military/industry qualification.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and ability to perform intermediate maintenance.
• Proven experience with safety risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Experience supporting test and evaluation activities, including data collection and reporting.
• Knowledge of security protocols, Section 5 requirements and secure storage procedures.
