Art Teacher – Special School (Part‑time)

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Art Teacher to join a reputable special school in rural West Sussex. This part‑time position involves two days per week, delivering creative and therapeutic art lessons to primary and secondary pupils with emotional, behavioural, social or communication difficulties.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver tailored art programmes that meet the individual needs of each student.
• Create a nurturing classroom environment that supports physical, emotional and behavioural development.
• Collaborate with senior leaders, subject teachers, the school doctor and therapists to ensure a holistic approach to each child’s progress.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials for students with BESD in a therapeutic setting.
• Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the wider school community.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
• Experience or a strong desire to work with children who have emotional, behavioural, social or communication difficulties.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Own vehicle and a valid driver’s licence due to the rural location.

Required skills

• Strong classroom management and lesson‑planning abilities.
• Knowledge of therapeutic approaches for BESD students.
