Aspiring Child Therapist – Learning Support Assistant (Camberley)

About the role
This position is designed for recent Psychology or Criminology graduates who want to gain hands‑on experience supporting vulnerable children in a secondary school setting. You will work alongside teachers and therapists to provide restorative, therapeutic support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning experiences for students with moderate learning difficulties.
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group pastoral support, focusing on safety, empowerment and resilience.
- Identify and escalate risks or safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures.
- Build robust, trusting relationships with pupils to reduce the likelihood of negative outcomes, including involvement with the criminal justice system.
- Participate in staff meetings, CPD sessions and contribute to the integrated Therapy Programme.
Required profile
- Recent graduate (BSc/BA) in Psychology or Criminology.
- Passion for restorative approaches and supporting children who have experienced adversity.
- Willingness to work on‑site five days a week in Camberley.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies.
Required skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Empathy, active listening and a caring attitude.
- Organisational skills to manage individual and group sessions.
