Assistant Accountant – Bookkeeping & VAT Support

About the role
This is a client‑facing bookkeeping position within a friendly, Farnham‑based accountancy practice. You will manage day‑to‑day accounts for a portfolio of SME clients while receiving training in VAT, management accounts and more advanced accounting tasks.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain day‑to‑day bookkeeping for multiple clients
- Perform bank and control account reconciliations
- Prepare VAT returns with support as needed
- Assist in the production of monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Review bookkeeping entries and resolve queries
- Support clients using Xero cloud accounting software
- Liaise with HMRC when required
Required profile
- Studying or open to studying AAT (Level 2‑4)
- Some exposure to bookkeeping and VAT
- Strong attention to detail and good Excel proficiency
- Confident, friendly communication and a reliable, team‑focused attitude
