Assistant Accountant

About the role

This temporary, part‑time Assistant Accountant position supports a small not‑for‑profit organisation in Stevenage. You will work within a close‑knit team to ensure accurate financial records and timely processing of payments.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices, run weekly and monthly payments, and reconcile supplier statements.
• Raise sales invoices, monitor customer accounts, allocate receipts and support credit‑control activities.
• Assist in month‑end close: prepare journals, accruals, pre‑payments, perform bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations, and maintain fixed‑asset registers.
• Help prepare budget forecasts, management accounts and ad‑hoc financial reports.
• Provide documentation for year‑end audit and resolve any financial discrepancies.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant, Management Accounts Assistant or similar role.
• Hands‑on month‑end accounting experience, including accruals, pre‑payments and journal entries.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP).
