Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant supports the finance function by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month‑end and year‑end processes, and preparing reports that aid business decision‑making. This role ensures compliance with company policies and accounting standards while providing timely financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and month‑end/year‑end closing activities.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger, bank, supplier and balance‑sheet accounts.
• Process journal entries, supplier invoices and employee expense claims.
• Monitor accounts payable and receivable, support credit control and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies.
• Prepare financial reports, variance analyses and support budgeting and forecasting.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, assist internal and external audits, and support statutory reporting such as VAT and payroll.
• Maintain finance systems, identify process improvements and contribute to finance‑related projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
• Experience working in a finance or accounting environment, including reconciliations, journal processing and financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Professional, trustworthy, proactive and a collaborative team player with good communication skills.
