Assistant Accountant – Motor Trade (Hybrid, £30k-£35k)

About the role

Join a fast‑growing automotive retail group as an Assistant Accountant supporting a multi‑site dealership finance function. You will work closely with the Multi‑Site Dealership Accountant to produce accurate financial information and help drive commercial performance across several locations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts.
• Prepare and post journals, including accruals and pre‑payments.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Help with budgeting and forecasting for multiple dealership sites.
• Analyse financial performance and produce reports with commentary.
• Provide financial insight to operational managers and support commercial decision‑making.
• Build strong relationships with General Managers, Sales Managers, Aftersales Managers and other department heads.
• Identify trends and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting, controls and processes.

Required profile

• Experience in a franchised motor‑trade accounting environment.
• Previous role as an Assistant Accountant or similar within a dealership group.
• Familiarity with journal entry, accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Exposure to management accounts, budgeting and forecasting.

Required skills

• Kerridge or CDK Drive dealer management system.
• Pinnacle dealer management system.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
