Assistant Accountant – Motor Trade (Hybrid, £30k‑£35k)

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join a growing automotive retail group. Working closely with the Multi‑Site Dealership Accountant, you will support the finance function across several dealership locations, gaining exposure to management accounting, reporting and commercial decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Prepare and post journals, including accruals and pre‑payments.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting across multiple sites.
• Analyse financial performance and produce reports with commentary.
• Provide financial insight to operational managers to drive performance.
• Build strong relationships with General Managers, Sales Managers and Aftersales leaders.
• Identify trends and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Support continuous improvement of reporting, controls and processes.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant or similar role within a franchised motor‑trade environment.
• Experience preparing journals, accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Exposure to management accounts, budgeting and forecasting.
• Confidence communicating with operational stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Kerridge, CDK Drive or Pinnacle dealer management systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
