Assistant Accountant – Motor Trade (Hybrid, £30k‑£35k)

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join a growing automotive retail group. Working closely with the Multi‑Site Dealership Accountant, you will support the finance function across several dealership locations and develop your management accounting skills in a commercial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Prepare and post journals, including accruals and pre‑payments.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting across multiple sites.
• Analyse financial performance and produce reports with commentary.
• Provide financial insight to operational managers to aid commercial decision‑making.
• Build relationships with General Managers, Sales Managers, Aftersales Managers and other stakeholders.
• Identify trends and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting, controls and processes.

Required profile

• Experience within a franchised motor‑trade accounts environment.
• Previous role as an Assistant Accountant or similar finance position in a dealership or dealer group.
• Proven ability to prepare journals, accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Exposure to management accounts, budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong working knowledge of dealer management systems such as Kerridge, CDK Drive or Pinnacle.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
