Assistant Cartographer

About the role

Ordnance Survey is looking for an Assistant Cartographer to join its Cartography team at the Southampton headquarters. This entry‑level position offers the chance to work with real mapping data and contribute to the products that millions of people rely on across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Edit and maintain geospatial datasets according to agreed specifications.
• Update maps with real‑world changes such as new roads, buildings and landscape features.
• Apply cartographic techniques and generalisation methods to ensure data consistency.
• Identify, investigate and resolve data quality issues.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver updates within defined quality standards and timescales.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed.

Required profile

• Early‑career talent with a strong attention to detail.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn cartography and geospatial data handling.
• Ability to spot and communicate data issues clearly.
