Assistant Chef – Part‑time Fixed‑Term (6 months)

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Chef to join our team at Cygnet Fountains in Blackburn. This part‑time, six‑month fixed‑term position involves preparing nutritious, appetising meals for residents in a high‑support inpatient rehabilitation setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the kitchen team in preparing balanced meals and snacks.
• Carry out basic cooking and food‑preparation tasks following recipes and dietary guidelines.
• Wash, store and maintain utensils, dishes and kitchen equipment.
• Receive, sort, store and distribute ingredients; check deliveries and support stock ordering.
• Maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen environment in line with health‑and‑safety standards.
• Handle chemicals safely according to COSHH regulations.

Required profile

• Passionate about catering, preferably with experience in a care or healthcare setting.
• Enthusiastic, eager to learn and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Polite, professional and able to communicate effectively with staff and residents.
• Reliable, diligent and committed to high standards of cleanliness.

Required skills

• Food preparation and basic cooking techniques.
• Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and sanitation practices.
• Experience with COSHH‑compliant chemical handling.
