Assistant Chef – Temporary Full‑Time (£14.29/hr)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Chef to join a busy catering operation supporting Merseyside Police. This temporary full‑time position offers the chance to work in a high‑volume kitchen serving over 1,500 customers daily.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef in preparing and delivering high‑quality dishes across restaurant and kiosk areas.
• Assist in developing diverse, nutritious menus that meet dietary requirements and current culinary trends.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff, providing guidance to ensure efficient food production and service.
• Maintain strict health, safety and hygiene standards in line with food safety legislation.
• Help manage procurement of quality goods alongside the Head Chef and Food & Beverage Supervisor.
• Utilise catering software to streamline cash flow, stock control and sales performance.

Required profile

• Qualified with City & Guilds 706/1, 706/2 or NVQ equivalent and a Level 2 food hygiene certificate.
• Experience in high‑volume catering for large customer bases (1500+).
• Creative thinker with a passion for innovative menu development.
• Tech‑savvy, comfortable using Microsoft Office and catering software daily.
• Strong communicator able to build relationships within the team and with customers.
• Independent, organised and capable of making autonomous decisions.
