Assistant Cook – Part‑time, 22.5 h/week

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Assistant Cook to join the catering team at Letchmore Infants School in Stevenage. Working 22.5 hours per week on a term‑time basis, you will help deliver nutritious meals to children while supporting the Cook Manager in a safe, child‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve balanced meals that meet dietary and allergen requirements.
• Assist the Cook Manager with daily kitchen tasks, including cooking, plating and cleaning.
• Maintain stock levels, receive deliveries and support inventory control.
• Record and update allergen information using the school’s IT ordering system.
• Uphold food safety, hygiene and health‑and‑safety standards at all times.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding children and adherence to DBS requirements.
• Previous experience in education catering or a similar setting.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification (mandatory).
• Understanding of key allergens and ability to cater for special dietary needs.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification.

• Use of IT systems for ordering, stock control and inventory monitoring.
