Assistant Education Mental Health Practitioner (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The Assistant Education Mental Health Practitioner will join Barnardo's North Cumbria Mental Health Support Teams, providing support to children and young people across schools in the Carlisle, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and surrounding areas. This fixed‑term position runs until January 2027 and offers a hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of a whole‑school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
• Assist trained CBT practitioners with therapeutic group interventions.
• Facilitate school assemblies, whole‑class or small‑group sessions using mental‑health resources.
• Locate, prepare and utilise resources for whole‑school mental‑health initiatives.
• Contribute to the MHST's high‑quality service for students experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Required profile

• Experience working with children and young people, preferably in an educational setting.
• Interest in a career supporting mental health and wellbeing in schools.
• Relevant degree or Level 5 qualification, or working towards a degree.
• Willingness to develop towards an Education Mental Health Practitioner role.
