Assistant Geomatics Officer

About the role

The Assistant Geomatics Officer will work mainly in the field, supporting archaeological surveys and trench stake‑outs while also spending time in the office to process and disseminate survey data. The role involves building effective relationships with the fieldwork and geomatics teams and liaising with project managers to ensure high‑quality geospatial outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Support safe and successful digital field surveys, including configuration, maintenance and security of GNSS equipment.
• Ensure the quality of digitised survey data from creation through to final delivery.
• Provide technical geospatial advice to all departments and create, manipulate and present archaeological datasets using appropriate software.
• Assist with staff training programmes and manage personal workload within geomatics workflows.
• Participate in on‑site fieldwork operations and adhere to fire, health and safety regulations.

Required profile

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in Archaeology or a related subject.
• Proven experience as a field archaeologist on evaluations, watching briefs and excavations, with an understanding of archaeological survey principles.
• Methodical approach to meeting deadlines and a full, clean manual driving licence.

Required skills

• Experience using GNSS instruments (preferably Leica) for archaeological field survey.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS software such as ArcMap, Infinity and ESRI geodatabase management.
• Ability to manipulate and present archaeological datasets and handle geophysical survey data.
