Assistant Head of Finance

About the role

The Assistant Head of Finance will lead the organisation’s operational finance function, supporting the Head of Finance and CEO in delivering financial strategy while handling day‑to‑day accounting in a dynamic SME environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee production of monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
• Report cash flow, budgets and key performance indicators accurately and on time.
• Provide financial commentary to senior leadership and support the Board on strategy.
• Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and over‑payments.
• Maintain robust internal controls and governance frameworks.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee balance‑sheet reconciliations and accuracy of financial records.
• Support the annual audit process and preparation of statutory accounts.
• Prepare and submit regulatory returns (FFR, SDR, etc.).
• Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial models for scenario planning.
• Manage transactional finance functions including banking, payroll and payments.
• Contribute to five‑year business plans and financial forecasts.

Required profile

• Experience leading a small finance team in an SME.
• Strong analytical and hands‑on accounting skills.
• Ability to work hybrid with 2–3 days on site.
