Assistant Head of Programmes (Specialist SEND, Post-16)

About the role

The specialist post‑16 education provider is seeking an Assistant Head of Programmes to support the delivery of high‑quality SEND education. Working closely with the Head of Programmes, you will help drive curriculum implementation, safeguarding, and student outcomes for learners with EHCPs.

Key responsibilities

• Support coordination and delivery of specialist post‑16 study programmes.
• Monitor student attendance, engagement, progress and destinations.
• Assist with curriculum planning, implementation and quality assurance activities.
• Oversee SEND provision, EHCP implementation, ILPs and annual reviews.
• Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead and promote student wellbeing initiatives.
• Lead day‑to‑day operational matters and support educational teams.
• Contribute to staff development, coaching and performance support.
• Maintain accurate MIS data and ensure compliance with statutory processes.

Required profile

• Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent).
• Experience working with learners who have SEND and EHCPs.
• Background in Further Education, post‑16 or specialist provision.
• Proven ability to lead or support educational teams.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and student wellbeing.
• Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
