Assistant Head Teacher – SEND & Inclusion

About the role

The school is seeking an experienced Assistant Head Teacher to lead SEND and Inclusion across the primary setting. Reporting to the Head Teacher, the role sits on the senior leadership team and is responsible for improving outcomes for pupils with SEND, EAL and other vulnerable groups.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the school’s SEND and Inclusion strategy, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and Equality Act.
• Act as Designated SENDCo, overseeing EHCP processes, assessments and support plans.
• Contribute to the School Improvement Plan and Self‑Evaluation, focusing on SEND and inclusion outcomes.
• Promote high‑quality inclusive teaching, supporting staff with differentiation, scaffolding and behaviour strategies.
• Analyse progress data for SEND, EAL and vulnerable groups, leading pupil progress reviews and adjusting provision.
• Build strong relationships with parents, carers and external agencies (e.g., EPs, SALT, CAMHS).
• Support safeguarding duties as part of the DSL team and ensure health & safety compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with substantial primary teaching experience.
• Proven experience of leading SEND, EAL or inclusion provision in a school setting.
• In‑depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP procedures and relevant legislation.
• Experience of senior leadership responsibilities and contributing to school‑wide improvement planning.
• Excellent communication skills for working with staff, parents, agencies and external partners.
