Assistant HR Business Partner

About the role

The Assistant HR Business Partner will join a busy People Services team in Lewes, supporting a diverse operational workforce. Reporting to the HR Business Partner, you will provide expert HR guidance on employee relations, workforce planning and organisational development, helping managers navigate complex people issues.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with managers to deliver proactive HR advice on employee relations, attendance, capability, disciplinary and grievance matters.
• Support workforce planning, recruitment campaigns and selection processes.
• Coach and develop managers in effective people management and policy application.
• Assist with organisational change initiatives, providing guidance throughout transitions.
• Analyse workforce data and people metrics to inform decisions and identify trends.
• Develop and deliver HR‑related training and workshops for managers.
• Contribute to the review and development of HR policies, procedures and best practice.
• Collaborate with Occupational Health providers and internal stakeholders to support employee wellbeing and attendance.
• Assist with consultation and engagement activities with employee representatives and trade unions.
• Support HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the People Services function.

Required profile

• Relevant HR qualification, preferably CIPD Level 5.
• Demonstrated experience providing HR advice and support in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong understanding of UK employment legislation and HR best practices.
• Excellent relationship‑building and coaching abilities.
• Ability to analyse data and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
