Assistant Merchandiser

About the role

The Assistant Merchandiser supports the Merchandising team so that the department can deliver its plan for customers, sales and profit. The role ensures the right stock and intake is available for customers, looks for ways to maximise the potential of products and stores, and works closely with the Merchandising team and other parts of the business. It is based in Bury.

Key responsibilities

• Support product mix, sign off pack reporting and analysis, and help formulate the range plan at store level with the Merchandiser/Buyer
• Create accurate size ratios for all buys and support order raising; help create purchase orders by upload and reconcile supplier order books
• Collate bookings with the Buying team, prioritise intake and review booked lines for best stock placement
• Review reporting, compile weekly trade focus and sales analysis, suggest cancellations, rephasing and markdowns, and identify priority stores
• Check and approve weekly divisional price changes, propose distribution changes, and set up and review linecards
• Undertake store visits, help build new store stock packages, and oversee the Merchandise Assistant's weekly tasks
• Carry out ad-hoc analysis and build collaborative working relationships across functions

Required profile

• Analytical, data-driven and highly numerate, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in entering and checking data
• Enthusiastic about JD, its brands and its customers
• Good knowledge of Excel and confident communicator able to build relationships at all levels
• Able to take ownership of work, with good teamwork and a positive, flexible approach

Required skills

• GUI, Shogun and intermediate Excel
• Good trade knowledge and sales analysis
• On-the-job shadowing training supported by online resources, with face-to-face sessions on key tools and processes where relevant
