Assistant Professor – Biotechnology

About the role

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB) at the University of Cambridge is seeking an Assistant Professor to start in October 2026 or shortly thereafter. The appointment is tenure‑track, with promotion to Associate Professor after successful probation. The role combines 70% research and 30% teaching, supporting the department’s strategic focus on sustainability and healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an internationally recognised research group in biotechnology.
• Secure external grant funding and publish in leading peer‑reviewed journals.
• Teach and examine across the Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology Tripos, including areas outside the candidate’s primary expertise.
• Supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to curriculum development.
• Participate in departmental service, fostering a positive research culture and industry collaborations.
