Assistant Quantity Surveyor

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team of a growing civil engineering contractor in Heywood. Working closely with the Commercial Manager, you will support the delivery of energy and wastewater infrastructure projects valued between £200k and £3m, gaining exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying and commercial management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the commercial management of energy and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Support the preparation of valuations, applications for payment and cost reports.
• Assist with subcontractor procurement, administration and payment processes.
• Monitor project costs and help identify commercial risks and opportunities.
• Prepare and price variations and compensation events.
• Support the production of forecasts and financial reporting.
• Work closely with site teams to ensure accurate commercial records are maintained.
• Develop a strong understanding of contracts, commercial procedures and project delivery processes under guidance of the Commercial Manager.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in a career within quantity surveying and commercial management, ideally in civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or construction.
• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Trainee Quantity Surveyor or similar role.
• A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline, or working towards one.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced commercial professionals.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.
