Assistant SENCO (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Assistant SENCO to join a leading academy in Greenwich on a maternity‑cover basis. This non‑teaching position allows an experienced SEND professional to focus entirely on coordinating provision, leading the learning support team, and driving inclusive practice across the school.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and targeted interventions.
• Lead, mentor and deploy a team of Learning Support Assistants to deliver high‑impact classroom support.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, external agencies and the local authority to review progress and tailor support.
• Monitor, track and report on academic and social progress of SEND students, using data to adapt provisions.
• Promote a culture of high expectations and inclusive practice throughout the school community.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with SEND pupils in a secondary mainstream or specialist setting.
• Previous role as Assistant SENCO, Lead LSA, HLTA or similar is highly desirable.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is welcome but not mandatory for this non‑teaching post.
• Strong organisational and communication abilities, with a proactive, resilient mindset.
