Assistant Store Manager – Optical Retail

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Store Manager to support the daily operations of our modern independent optician practice in Cambridge. You will work alongside the Store Manager to ensure a high‑quality patient experience and help drive commercial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Store Manager with day‑to‑day running of the practice.
• Lead, motivate and develop the team to deliver exceptional customer service.
• Act as the main point of contact on the shop floor, maintaining standards throughout the day.
• Assist patients with frame and lens selection, providing tailored advice.
• Dispense spectacles accurately and explain prescription details.
• Carry out adjustments, fittings and minor repairs to ensure optimal fit.
• Maintain visual merchandising and store presentation.
• Handle appointments, administration and operational tasks.
• Take ownership of the practice in the Store Manager’s absence.

Required profile

• Previous experience working in an optical setting.
• Supervisory or team‑leader experience within optics.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Commercial awareness and a passion for customer service.
• Positive, proactive attitude with willingness to take initiative.
