Assistant Team Manager - Early Help

About the role

The Assistant Team Manager will support the Early Help service in Sefton by overseeing a team of Social Workers and related professionals. This role ensures statutory duties are met while safeguarding vulnerable children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of a multidisciplinary team delivering Early Help services.
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable children and young people, managing risk effectively.
• Ensure key performance targets for the team, service, and council are achieved.
• Promote equality of opportunity, joint working with other council teams and external partners.
• Lead the implementation of Sefton’s child‑care policies and vision.
• Utilise multidisciplinary resources to maintain high‑quality, cost‑effective practice.
• Distribute caseloads appropriately and monitor thresholds for cases.
• Support the preparation of high‑quality reports for courts and other purposes.
• Oversee assessments, plans, and toolkits, ensuring risks are recorded and escalated.
• Use performance data, audit findings, and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve practice.
• Chair team meetings and provide guidance to social workers as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a team of social workers or similar professionals.
• Strong understanding of statutory duties, child‑welfare legislation, and safeguarding procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively across council departments and external partners.
• Excellent organisational and reporting skills, with experience preparing court‑level documentation.
• Commitment to the council’s values and to delivering high‑quality, child‑focused services.
