Assistant Town Planner – Hybrid, Edinburgh

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious Assistant Town Planner to join a respected planning consultancy in Edinburgh. You will work alongside senior planners on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, rural and mixed‑use projects, gaining hands‑on experience in planning advice for both private and public sector clients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit planning applications and related documentation.
• Conduct policy research, site appraisals and planning investigations.
• Assist with planning appeals, representations and liaise with local authorities.
• Support the drafting of Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and other reports.
• Monitor application progress and keep clients informed.
• Attend site visits, client meetings and planning committee sessions as required.

Required profile

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related field.
• Working towards or recently achieved MRTPI status, or a clear ambition to obtain it.
• Previous planning experience in a consultancy, local authority or developer setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication, excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Proactive attitude with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
