Assistant Train Controller

About the role

Join a newly established Service Delivery Centre supporting freight operations across the South region. As an Assistant Train Controller you will sit at the heart of a live operational environment, monitoring train movements and providing critical information to Train Controllers.

Key responsibilities

• Track train movements and keep operational systems updated in real‑time.
• Collect, collate and communicate operational information to support decision‑making.
• Liaise with depots, operational teams and colleagues across the Service Delivery Centre to maintain situational awareness.
• Log events, incidents and service impacts accurately.
• Provide timely operational support to Train Controllers to enable effective real‑time control of freight services.

Required profile

• Experience supporting busy operational environments, service delivery functions, coordination teams or control rooms.
• Strong IT and system handling abilities, comfortable updating operational systems.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑moving, safety‑critical environment.
