Associate Director, Model Advisory & Management

About the role

HSBC is seeking an Associate Director to join its Model Advisory & Management team within Corporate & Institutional Banking. The role will be based in London on a hybrid basis and will focus on the implementation, optimisation and governance of Wholesale IRB models across a global banking environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support end‑to‑end implementation and embedding of Wholesale IRB models, including impact assessments and adoption support.
• Drive model outcome optimisation by improving data inputs, systems, processes and model usage.
• Conduct deep‑dive reviews and data analysis to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Develop and deliver model training programmes, user guides, FAQs and stakeholder sessions.
• Review model selection and usage practices, identify control weaknesses and support remediation.
• Assess and enhance credit risk policies, recommending simplifications where appropriate.
• Identify opportunities to leverage AI and GenAI tools to boost team productivity.
• Monitor regulatory developments and evaluate their impact on the model landscape.
• Build knowledge repositories and facilitate learning sessions on climate risk modelling and economic capital.
• Act as a trusted SME, providing technical and commercial guidance to senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong background in wholesale banking or wholesale credit risk, with experience in coverage banking, debt origination, portfolio management or credit & capital management.
• Excellent knowledge of Wholesale IRB models across the credit lifecycle (rating, origination, monitoring, capital, RWA, pricing).
• Proven experience supporting implementation and adoption of risk models or methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
