Associate Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Robert Bird Group is seeking an Associate Geotechnical Engineer to lead technically robust and commercially successful solutions for complex UK building and infrastructure projects. You will work closely with Directors, shape design strategies, and mentor junior engineers within a collaborative, high‑performance team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical design for deep basements, foundations, retaining structures and ground‑movement assessments.
• Oversee ground investigations, prepare and review technical reports.
• Deliver advanced numerical modelling using PLAXIS 2D/3D, GeoStudio, WALLAP, Repute and the Oasys suite.
• Develop design concepts, methodologies and project strategies with senior leadership.
• Ensure design risk management and CDM compliance throughout all project stages.
• Plan resources, manage programmes, control project costs and prepare fee proposals.
• Lead design reviews, apply QA procedures and manage sub‑consultants.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering geotechnical solutions on complex urban projects.
• Strong client‑facing skills and ability to support new business opportunities.
• Demonstrated capability to mentor and develop engineering team members.
• Excellent communication and collaborative mindset.
