Audit & Accounts Assistant Manager

About the role

This is a genuine Assistant Manager position within a well‑established chartered accountancy practice in Newbury. You will manage a small portfolio of audit clients while supporting the development of junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Lead audits for a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors.
• Plan and coordinate audit assignments to ensure efficient, high‑quality delivery.
• Review audit work prepared by junior staff and provide coaching and technical support.
• Manage audit fieldwork both on‑site and remotely, acting as the main client contact.
• Identify risks, resolve technical audit and accounting matters, and prepare statutory accounts in line with relevant standards.
• Monitor budgets, deadlines and project progress.
• Support managers and partners with advisory work and business development initiatives.
• Contribute to training, mentoring and performance development of junior staff.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Previous experience in a UK chartered accountancy firm.
• Strong audit experience, including planning, completion and file review.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members.
• Good working knowledge of UK GAAP and auditing standards.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Organised, commercially aware and able to manage multiple assignments.
