Audit & Accounts Senior Manager / Director

About the role

The firm, a well‑established independent chartered accountancy practice in Brighton, is seeking an experienced Audit Responsible Individual (RI) to join its senior leadership team. The position is open to candidates currently at Manager, Senior Manager or Director level and provides a clear pathway to partnership and equity within a supportive, hybrid‑working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of planning, execution and completion of corporate audit engagements, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Act as the Responsible Individual on audit assignments, signing off work and upholding professional and ethical standards.
• Oversee the preparation and review of statutory accounts, guaranteeing technical accuracy and alignment with audit work.
• Lead, develop and mentor audit and accounts teams, fostering capability and career progression.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser to owner‑managed businesses and corporate groups.
• Contribute to business development initiatives and support the growth of the audit function.
• Participate in succession planning with a defined route to partnership for the right individual.

Required profile

• Qualified Chartered Accountant holding RI status.
• Proven experience leading corporate audit engagements at Manager, Senior Manager or Director level.
• Strong technical grounding in accounts and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
• Commercial mindset with a focus on client service and business development.
