Audit and Assurance – Risk-Based First-Line Role

About the role

South West Water is seeking an experienced audit professional to lead a risk‑based, first‑line assurance programme. The role ensures regulatory, operational and governance standards are met while embedding a "Quality First" culture across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a first‑line risk‑based assurance framework.
• Develop and manage the annual internal audit programme aligned to SWW priorities.
• Conduct audits, produce high‑quality reports and deliver actionable insights.
• Support reporting to the South West Water Operational Leadership Team (OLT) and senior executives.
• Maintain alignment with regulatory obligations and internal compliance frameworks.
• Act as subject‑matter expert for Quality Management Systems (QMS) and support second‑ and third‑line assurance activities.
• Engage senior stakeholders, present findings clearly and influence control environments.
• Deliver monthly assurance reports, track corrective actions and ensure timely escalation of risks.
• Identify and lead continuous‑improvement and transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of audit and assurance principles within a regulated utility environment.
• Experience delivering risk‑based internal audit programmes.
• Ability to work with senior stakeholders and present complex findings confidently.
• Commitment to quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
