Autism Specialist Teacher – Barnsley

About the role

Reeson Education is seeking a dedicated Autism Specialist Teacher to join a supportive school in Barnsley. The role starts in September 2026 and focuses on delivering personalised, structured learning for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to individual autistic learners.
• Maintain a predictable classroom environment using visual supports and clear routines.
• Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation through autism‑friendly strategies.
• Monitor academic and wellbeing progress and adapt interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, parents and external agencies to ensure cohesive support.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with autistic pupils in SEN, specialist or mainstream settings.
• Strong knowledge of autism‑specific teaching approaches and sensory‑aware practices.
• Excellent communication, patience and relationship‑building abilities.
• Ability to create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Resilient, flexible and child‑centred mindset.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
