Autism Support Practitioner

About the role

The Autism Support Practitioner will provide high‑level, personalised care and educational support to children and young adults with autism and other learning needs. Working within a specialist SEN environment, you will help learners progress academically, develop social skills and achieve self‑regulation through tailored interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individualized educational support and care throughout the school day.
• Implement sensory‑based activities addressing visual, tactile, auditory and communication needs.
• Manage behaviour, apply de‑escalation techniques and promote self‑regulation.
• Support learners one‑to‑one and in small intervention groups.
• Utilise the centre’s sensory rooms, soft areas, interactive play stations and outdoor facilities to create a nurturing learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or adults with autism or other learning needs.
• Knowledge of sensory needs (visual, touch, communication, hearing) and ability to design suitable sessions.
• Confidence in managing behaviour and applying de‑escalation strategies.
• Ability to work both one‑to‑one and with small groups.
