Backend Engineer – Build Global FinTech Infrastructure

About the role

Outpost is building an AI‑driven global trade engine and needs a Backend Engineer to create the core financial infrastructure from the ground up. You will work closely with engineering leadership to design and implement payment flows, tax calculation engines and multi‑currency ledgers that power international commerce.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop high‑throughput payment processing systems handling hundreds of millions in volume.
• Build robust ledger, reconciliation and real‑time tax calculation engines for multiple jurisdictions.
• Create merchant onboarding frameworks and integrations with major e‑commerce platforms.
• Implement AI/LLM‑powered tools for tax classification, fraud detection and risk scoring.

Required profile

• Strong background in building complex backend systems, preferably in fintech.
• Ability to design scalable architectures and contribute to technical direction.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a bias for action.

Required skills

• Fluency in a JVM‑based language, preferably Kotlin.
• Solid engineering fundamentals and clean coding practices.
