Backend Engineer (Remote Contract)

About the role

We are looking for a remote Backend Engineer to design and build scalable backend services that power innovative digital products. You will work with a high‑performing engineering team, shaping the core technology stack while delivering reliable, secure solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high‑performance backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Collaborate with product and front‑end teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Optimize systems for reliability, security, and efficiency.
• Write clean, well‑documented, and thoroughly tested code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, mentor peers, and share knowledge.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve production issues, focusing on root‑cause analysis.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and propose innovative solutions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Proven ability to design and implement RESTful APIs and micro‑service architectures.
• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases and data modeling.
• Deep understanding of security, authentication and authorization best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative attitude.
