Behaviour Support Assistant – Specialist SEN School

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Bexhill-on-Sea. You will work directly with pupils who have complex needs such as SEMH, ASD, ADHD and other behavioural challenges, helping them feel safe, regulated and able to succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils requiring additional emotional, behavioural and learning assistance.
• Implement personalised behaviour strategies and support plans throughout the school day.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and self‑regulation.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to ensure consistent, compassionate support.
• Help maintain a calm, positive and structured learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with young people in any supportive capacity (youth work, mentoring, coaching, etc.).
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach to managing challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Genuine passion for helping young people thrive.
• Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Education or related fields are encouraged but not essential.

Required skills

• Ability to follow and implement behaviour support plans.
• Basic understanding of SEN terminology (SEMH, ASD, ADHD).
