Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Secondary Schools

About the role

Aspire People is seeking enthusiastic Behaviour Teaching Assistants to support secondary‑school students in Manchester from September 2026. You will work directly with pupils who display challenging behaviour, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to students.
• Manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviour using positive strategies.
• Encourage student engagement and focus during lessons.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams on individual behaviour plans.
• Promote a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour.
• Calm, patient and confident in positive behaviour management.
• Resilient, reliable and adaptable to different school settings.
• Passionate about supporting academic and personal success.
• Strong communication skills for building relationships quickly.

Required skills

• Previous experience in schools, youth work, alternative provision, care, sports coaching or similar.
• Experience with SEMH, SEND or challenging‑behaviour support.
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) and recent references.
