Biomedical Scientist Team Manager - Infectious Sciences

About the role

Synlab is seeking a Biomedical Scientist Team Manager to lead its Infectious Sciences laboratory in Taunton. The role combines hands‑on scientific work with teaching, mentoring and operational management, supporting high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Rotate through Bacteriology, Parasitology, Virology, Molecular diagnostics and Mycology as required.
• Perform and interpret routine and specialist investigations autonomously, meeting turnaround time targets.
• Provide professional leadership, training and mentorship to junior staff and trainees.
• Drive continuous improvement of laboratory quality systems and ensure compliance with Health Professions Council standards.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours on‑call service, weekend and bank‑holiday rotas.

Required profile

• Registered Biomedical Scientist with strong quality management experience.
• Proven ability to work independently, make autonomous decisions and handle lone working during evenings and weekends.
• Excellent organisational and IT skills, with resilience in a busy, evolving service.
