Book Editor & Proofreader (Remote)

About the role

British Book Publishers UK has been helping authors turn rough manuscripts into polished publications since 2012. We are seeking an experienced editor and proofreader to provide affordable editing across a range of genres, ensuring clear and readable books.

Key responsibilities

• Review manuscripts for spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, consistency and overall readability.
• Provide editorial feedback while respecting each author’s voice.
• Perform copy editing, proofreading, check formatting issues, track changes and prepare clean files for the next publication stage.
• Meet agreed deadlines and maintain attention to detail throughout the process.

Required profile

• Previous experience in book editing, proofreading, copy editing or publishing.
• Excellent written English with strong knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
• Familiarity with UK English spelling and publishing standards.
• Ability to spot inconsistencies, errors, repeated content and formatting issues.
• Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
• Confidence using Microsoft Word and its Track Changes feature.
• Capability to manage several manuscripts simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• A degree in English, Publishing, Journalism, Literature or a related field is preferred but not required.
