Bookkeeper – Accountancy Practice in Lewes

About the role

We are seeking a confident, detail‑oriented Bookkeeper to join a small, well‑established accountancy practice in Lewes. The role is office‑based with the option to work from home one or two days per week after a three‑month probationary period.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records for sole traders and limited companies using cloud‑based software.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and self‑assessment tax returns.
• Post accruals, pre‑payments and produce management accounts.
• Liaise with HMRC via telephone and email to resolve queries.
• Support clients with bookkeeping questions and assist with additional practice duties as the business grows.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice.
• Strong knowledge of VAT returns and bookkeeping processes.
• Experience preparing management accounts.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client requirements.

What we offer

• Salary £32,000‑£34,000 per year.
• 35‑hour permanent contract (08:30‑16:00, Monday‑Friday).
