Bookkeeper / Accounts Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Manager to take full ownership of the finance function for a profitable SME based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Reporting directly to the business owner, you will ensure the books are accurate, reconciliations are up‑to‑date, payroll is processed and month‑end information is delivered on time.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management information and accounts up to trial balance.
• Perform bank, cash and credit‑card reconciliations.
• Oversee customer payment reconciliations and monitor direct‑debit collections.
• Maintain debtor and creditor ledgers, process journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Process payroll using Sage Payroll.
• Handle general finance and office queries as needed.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper, Accounts Manager or similar finance role.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for end‑to‑end accounting processes.
• Practical, reliable and comfortable being the go‑to person for accurate numbers.
• Enjoys working closely with business owners in a small‑team environment.

Required skills

• Experience with a small‑business accounting package.
• Working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts.
• Sage Payroll experience.
