Bookkeeper – Hybrid (Birmingham area)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, practice‑based Bookkeeper to join a rapidly expanding family‑run accountancy firm in the Birmingham area. The role is full‑time and hybrid, with one day a week working from home and the remainder on‑site, where you will manage physical client paperwork and support the wider team.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of VAT returns for a growing portfolio of clients.
• Perform day‑to‑day bookkeeping duties, ensuring accurate financial records.
• Use Xero, Sage and QuickBooks to record transactions and produce reports.
• Handle physical paperwork and assist clients in moving to cloud‑based solutions.
• Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries and collect outstanding documents.
• Collaborate with the accounting team to meet all deadlines efficiently.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience in an accountancy practice.
• AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualification (highly preferred).
• Strong technical understanding of VAT return preparation and submission.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills with a professional demeanor.
• Willingness to work primarily on‑site, with some flexibility.
