Bookkeeper / Payroll Administrator

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑focused Bookkeeper / Payroll Administrator to support a portfolio of SME clients. The role involves managing bookkeeping and payroll tasks using Xero and ensuring compliance with UK tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Process sales, purchases, bank receipts, payments, supplier invoices, expenses and client invoices in Xero.
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate ledgers.
• Assist with preparation and submission of VAT returns.
• Liaise with clients to resolve queries and provide professional support.
• Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll, including starters, leavers and changes.
• Calculate statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, SPP and holiday pay.
• Submit RTI filings and handle PAYE correspondence.
• Support pension auto‑enrolment and liaise with providers.

Required profile

• Proven experience in bookkeeping and payroll administration for SME clients.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage confidential information professionally.
• Good communication skills with clients and internal teams.
• Willingness to work flexibly in a hybrid arrangement.
