Bookkeeper – Temp to Perm (Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join a well‑respected accountancy practice serving clients across Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. The role starts immediately on a temporary basis with the prospect of permanent employment.

Key responsibilities

• Process sales and purchase ledger transactions.
• Perform bank reconciliations and manage cashbooks.
• Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Post journals and maintain accurate financial records.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Reconcile credit‑card and expense statements.
• Assist with month‑end bookkeeping activities.
• Maintain client bookkeeping records and resolve discrepancies.
• Produce management information and financial reports as required.
• Liaise with clients to obtain financial information and answer queries.
• Support accountants with year‑end preparation and audit requirements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and procedures.

Required profile

• Previous bookkeeping experience, preferably within an accountancy practice.
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines.
• Professional communication with a client‑focused approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero or QuickBooks.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
