Bookkeeping Supervisor

About the role

The Bookkeeping Supervisor will lead a team of junior bookkeepers and assistants, ensuring high‑quality financial records for a portfolio of clients. This full‑time position is based in London and offers the chance to shape efficient bookkeeping processes while maintaining compliance with UK tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise junior bookkeepers and bookkeeping assistants.
• Allocate work, monitor workloads and ensure deadlines are met.
• Review bookkeeping work prepared by team members for accuracy.
• Maintain accurate accounting records for client portfolios.
• Prepare and review VAT returns and ensure compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
• Identify and resolve VAT issues and discrepancies.
• Liaise with HMRC on bookkeeping and VAT matters when required.
• Act as the primary contact for bookkeeping clients, responding to queries promptly and professionally.
• Review monthly bookkeeping records and prepare management accounts support schedules.
• Ensure all balance‑sheet reconciliations are completed and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising bookkeeping or accounting teams.
• Strong knowledge of UK VAT regulations and Making Tax Digital compliance.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Effective communication skills for client interaction and HMRC liaison.
