Breakdown & Recovery Team Member

About the role

DB Cargo UK is seeking a motivated Breakdown & Recovery Team Member to join its specialist team at Hoo Junction. You will play a vital part in restoring rail services after incidents and derailments, working across the UK to minimise disruption and get trains moving again.

Key responsibilities

• Support recovery operations under the supervision of the Breakdown & Recovery Supervisor.
• Create and maintain safe working environments at depots and incident sites.
• Operate, handle and maintain specialist recovery equipment such as jacking systems and packing materials.
• Perform cutting and welding tasks where trained, competent and authorised.
• Carry out inspections and routine maintenance to keep equipment serviceable and ready for deployment.
• Collaborate with colleagues, customers and industry partners during recovery missions.
• Use depot time proactively to develop skills, maintain equipment and support wider team activities.

Required profile

• Positive, proactive attitude towards work and personal development.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Safety‑focused, practical mindset and ability to stay calm in challenging situations.
• Willingness to work a rostered pattern of 12‑hour shifts covering days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
