British Sign Language Teaching Assistant – Leeds

About the role
Protocol Education is seeking a compassionate British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in North Leeds. You will support pupils with hearing impairments, helping them access lessons, develop confidence, and thrive in an inclusive classroom environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with hearing impairments.
- Use BSL to facilitate communication and learning across the curriculum.
- Assist pupils in accessing lessons, classroom activities, and social interactions.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning atmosphere.
Required profile
- BSL Level 3 qualification or higher (preferred).
- Experience working with children, young people, or in an educational setting.
- Background supporting pupils with SEMH and SEND.
- Calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
- Previous roles such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Communication Support Worker are highly desirable.
Required skills
- Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) for classroom communication.
